what a remarkable show; one of the longest (latest) nights in the swamp that i
the show was just amazing with only one small drawback. out of nowhere
springsteen gave the opening act nod to his better half, patty scialfa. patty
does great backing vocals for the e-street band and has one or two decent songs,
but somebody say amen, not a full set. after that i needed to relax and wait for
the doctor to prep me for surgery.
things brightened up nicely when jackson came out for his set. he is one of the
best songwriters and delivers with a kick-ass band. the guitars of mark
goldenberg (superb) and val mccallum really punched up the sound. katherine
russel has got some set of pipes on backing vocals. great versions of "fountain
of sorrow" and "the pretender". little steven came out for "i am a patriot" and
bruce strolled on for "running on empty"
love him or not, springsteen, nearing forty (wtf?), is still putting on a hugely
entertaining show. i'll pin the setlist in; just because it was so good.
highlights were eddie vedder showing up for "no surrender", "darkness on the
edge of town" and a jaw-dropping version of "betterman" ; jacskon up for "racing
in the streets"; and john fogerty romping through his "centerfield", "deja vu
all over again", fortunate one" and "promised land". sprinsgsteen's encores
brought out fogerty again for three ccr killers.
what a great, great show.
many, many kind thanks to the rust ladies who made it all possible.
karen, sara and jill. three reasons why the folks on rust are just the best.
thank you. thank you. thank you.
